The City of Bath Male Choir
PRESS RELEASE
January 1st 2008
EMBARGOED FOR JANUARY 1ST and your first issue of 2008
After only two years of music making The City of Bath Male Choir is looking ahead to a successful 2008 and if you’re male and a singer then perhaps this is the new hobby for you.
The Choir was started by Grenville Jones in 2006 and in a short space of time has made a huge impact on the local music scene.
Grenville is known for his leadership of the celebrated Silver Ring Choir, the new all girl Stockingtops swing group and a number of other music projects in the City.
“When I announced that I was starting a Male choir there were many people who thought it would never get off the ground as there were so many Choirs in and around Bath.
“After such a short space of time the Choir now has over 70 voices, that’s men aged between 20 and 65 who enjoy singing. They come from across the area from Midsomer Norton, Radstock, Peasedown, Frome. Many live in the City itself and we have singers who travel from as far a field as Chippenham and Nailsea.”
The Male Choir’s patron is the Mayor of Bath and the Choir made a huge impact when they sang at the Mayor-Making Ceremony in Bath Abbey in March 2007. They have also sung at the Bath Forum on two occasions with such celebrity names as Jamie Cullum, Clare Teal and Aled Jones.
Their next date in Bath will be Saturday May 3rd when they will be appearing at the 2008 SHOWCASE concert. A highly successful tour to Germany took place in 2007 and they plan a visit to Bath’s twin town Alkmaar this Spring (2008.)
The City of Bath Male Choir has also been accepted to sing in the BBC Radio 3 Choir of the Year competition and will be heading for St David’s Hall, Cardiff on 18th May.
“This will be quite a daunting day for us all but it will be another great experience for the Choir and we will sing our hearts out as always,” says Grenville.
Grenville’s target for the Choir is 80 voices and he is particularly keen to recruit more top tenors. If you love to sing then please contact him. The ability to sight read music is not important, just an enjoyment of singing.
